Transnet National Ports Authority

Transnet National Ports Authority is a division of Transnet Limited and is mandated to control and manage all seven commercial ports on the 2954km South African coastline. Situated at the tip of the African Continent, the South African ports are ideally situated to serve both the eastern and western seaboards.

Transnet National Ports Authority is the largest port authority in southern Africa, controlling seven of the 16 noteworthy ports in the region. These ports are Richards Bay, Durban, East London, Port Elizabeth, Mossel Bay, Cape Town and Saldanha.

Unlike most European ports, each South African port has a natural hinterland with a defined market and this determines to a large extent the nature and types of cargo handled at each port.
