Working hours

The Transnet National Ports Authority Administrative offices hours: 0800-16:00 (Monday to Friday)

The Transnet National Ports Authority Marine Services: 24-hour service, 7 days a week, except Christmas Day.

Terminals: 24-hours, 7 days a week. (Note: Closures over public holidays vary per terminal)

Fresh water supplies

Fresh water and ship-to-shore telephone lines are available at all berths, upon request.

Contingency Plan

The port has a Business Continuity Plan in place. In case of emergency contact:

Dry dock/ship repair facilities

No dry-dock facilities are available, but facilities for minor ship repairs are provided.

Limitations e.g. harbour entrance depth

The port entrance channel has a width of 300m, extending seawards 400m beyond the breakwater to a depth of 22m. The maximum permitted draught is 17,5 metres. Vessels with a draft over 17,5 m are handled at the discretion of the Harbour Master.

A Seafarers’ Club is located just outside the western security gate (Contact: (+27 35) 797-9341)

Bunkering

Bunker points are available only at the chemical and coal berths, i.e. berths 209, 301, and 302. The maximum vessel size permitted alongside berth 209 is LOA. = 225 m, draught = 12,5 m, total displacement = 67 000 dwt. Bunkers can also be provided by a bunker barge at all berths. Slops are removed on request.

Divers

Professional divers offer a full diving service and are equipped with modern equipment.

Chandlers

Ships chandling and laundry facilities are available (please contact vessel’s agents).

Dredgers

The entrance channel and basin depths are maintained by dredging. A trailing suction hopper dredger, with a hopper capacity of 2 300m2 is used to carry out the work. This dredger is supplied by the in-house contractor, Dredging Services.
